TEMPLE, TX (April 8, 2025) – The Temple Police Department has activated a local Amber Alert known as an Athena Alert.
At around 11:44 p.m. on Sunday, April 6th, officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of SW HK Dodgen Loop for reports that a juvenile in Temple, TX, left the residence voluntarily. This juvenile was identified as 15-year-old Aunastasia Herrera. It was learned through the investigation that her sister, 14-year-old Natalia Herrera, who was in Woodway, TX, had also left home voluntarily around the same time. Both juveniles are from Waco, TX, and have previously run away before and met in the Waco area. It is believed Aunastasia and Natalia may currently be in the Waco area.
Due to the circumstances of the investigation, it led us to believe these two children are at high-risk. The Temple Police Department contacted the Department of Public Safety and have been in contact with the Woodway Police Department as well on the issuance of an Athena Alert through the Amber Alert system. The Waco Police Department was contacted as well because they are believed to be in the Waco area.
Aunastasia was last seen wearing a green hoodie, blue jean shorts, and black shoes, while her sister, Natalia, was last seen wearing a black puffy jacket, black shirt, and black shoes. If you believe you have seen one or both of these juveniles, please call 9-1-1, and an officer will be dispatched to investigate.
An Athena Alert is a local alert issued through the Amber Alert system, but only within a 100-mile radius. This alert can be issued when not all of the criteria for an Amber Alert is met, but the circumstance leads law enforcement to believe the child may be in danger. This alert will still be sent out the same way as an Amber Alert, be posted on the message boards by the highways, and on billboards.
This case is under investigation, and no other information will be released at this time.
