    City of Temple Announces Promotion of Police Chief Shawn M. Reynolds to Assistant City Manager

    Nationwide search for the next Chief of Police to begin after January 1, 2026

    TEMPLE, TX (September 19, 2025) - The City of Temple is proud to announce that Police Chief Shawn M. Reynolds has been promoted to Assistant City Manager.
    Chief Reynolds has led the Temple Police Department since June 1, 2020, bringing decades of law enforcement experience and a deep commitment to public service. Before his time in Temple, Reynolds served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy, working as a Radioman, firefighter and nationally registered emergency medical technician.
    He holds both a Master of Arts in Organizational Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Management and Human Relations from MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas. A graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officer’s Course at the University of Louisville, Reynolds has established himself as a leader in law enforcement at the local, state, and national levels.

I am grateful for the opportunities that have been provided to me and the relationships that have developed and grown. The men and women of the Temple Police Department have worked diligently over the past five years, and I am grateful for each one of them. I am excited to continue to serve the community and our employees in my new role as Assistant City Manager and all that we can accomplish together.”

    Reynolds and his wife of 35 years have two children and two grandchildren.
    The City of Temple extends its deepest appreciation to Chief Reynolds for his service and leadership and looks forward to his continued contributions in his new role.
    Deputy Chief Allen Teston will serve as Interim Chief of Police, and the city will begin a nationwide search for the next Chief of Police after the first of the year.
    As part of the search, community members and police department members will be invited to participate in the selection process for the next Chief of Police. This community and police department involvement may include focus groups, surveys, and participation in the interview process.
