City of Temple Facilities to Reopen at Noon with Some Exceptions
TEMPLE, TX (January 28, 2026) - UPDATE: Following continued evaluation of ice accumulation and travel conditions throughout Temple, City of Temple facilities will have a delayed start today, opening at 12 p.m., to prioritize the safety of residents and city staff. All City of Temple facilities are expected to open, with a few exceptions based on site access due to ice.
Temple Public Library:
The Temple Public Library will open at 1 p.m. If you’re visiting the Temple Public Library, please use the basement garage for parking and enter through the basement doors. The upper parking lot remains icy.

Garbage & Recycling Update:
Solid Waste operations will begin today as scheduled. Residents with normal collection days of Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday should have their bins at the curb. Residents with collection days of Thursday or Friday should have their bins at the curb by 7 a.m. on their normal collection day.

Garbage and recycling collections will be delayed and begin on Wednesday, January 28. Residents with normal collection days of Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday should have their bins to the curb by Wednesday at 7 a.m. Residents with collection days of Thursday or Friday should have their bins to the curb by 7 a.m. on their normal collection day.

Garbage and Recycling Collection Updates
Monday garbage and recycling collections are delayed until Tuesday. Monday and Tuesday residential routes should place their bins on the curb no later than noon on Tuesday for collection. If your collection day is Wednesday through Friday, please have your bins out by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.

City of Temple Prepares for Winter Weather Expected to begin Saturday, January 24
TEMPLE, TX (January 23, 2026) - The City of Temple is preparing for winter weather expected to impact the area on Saturday, January 24. City staff are actively monitoring forecasts and taking steps to ensure the safety of residents while maintaining essential services.
City Closures
Due to the expected winter weather, the following City of Temple facilities will be closed Saturday, January 24 and Sunday, January 25:
- Draughon-Miller Central Texas Regional Airport
- Frank W. Mayborn Civic & Convention Center
- Gober Party House
- Heart to Home Animal Adoption Center
- Railroad & Heritage Museum
- Sammons Golf Course
- Sammons Indoor Pool
- Summit Recreation Center
- Temple Public Library
- Wilson Recreation Center
City Preparations
The City of Temple is actively monitoring weather conditions and preparing for potential impacts to local roadways. City crews are paying close attention to bridges, overpasses, and other elevated surfaces, which tend to freeze first. Our Public Works crews are sanding major intersections as well as emergency room entrances and are on standby to respond to hazardous conditions as they arise. Out of an abundance of caution, crews have barricaded Birdcreek Drive, which has a history of becoming hazardous during winter weather. City staff will continue to monitor conditions throughout the weekend and prioritize public safety.
The City of Temple is also coordinating with the Texas Department of Transportation, which is responsible for state highways and major roadways, including I-35 and other state-maintained routes in and around Temple. TxDOT has been pre-treating those roadways ahead of the anticipated winter weather. The city maintains communication with TxDOT and monitors conditions that could affect traffic flow and safety within the community.
Warming Shelters
Overnight warming shelters will be available from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. at the following locations:
- Hilltop Recovery Ministries (adult women only), 509 S 9th St.
- The Salvation Army, 419 W. Avenue G
Feed my Sheep, located at 116 W. Avenue G, will be open during regular business hours as a warming station.
Reporting Tree Limbs, Water Leaks, or Emergencies
From Saturday, January 24 at noon through Monday, January 26 at 8 a.m., residents may report road conditions, downed tree limbs in the roadways, and water leaks or outages to our Customer Care line at 254.298.5000, for Temple Police Department non-emergencies, call 254.298.5500, for emergencies, please dial 911.
Emergency services will continue to operate as normal. Additional city staff, including Police and Fire Department personnel, are on-call to respond if call volumes increase due to the winter storm impact.

The City of Temple encourages residents to stay informed by monitoring local weather forecasts and signing up for Alert Temple notifications for timely emergency updates. City officials also remind residents to take steps to prepare their homes for freezing temperatures, including protecting pipes and bringing pets indoors. Public safety remains the city’s top priority, and residents are asked to use caution, plan ahead, and look out for one another as winter weather moves through the area.
