Recentally installed parking signage to be removed
TEMPLE, TX (February 18, 2026) — The City of Temple is removing recent downtown parking signage to avoid confusion. This signage was installed as part of a long-term infrastructure plan that would add an option to extend on-street parking beyond the current two-hour maximum.
While the intent was to prepare early and position the city for future demand, the sequencing created understandable confusion. There is no change to current downtown parking enforcement at this time, and before any final decisions are made regarding future parking management strategies, the city will conduct community engagement to gather input from downtown businesses, employees, residents, and visitors. Public feedback will be an important part of the review process to ensure any future implementation reflects the needs of the community.
This initiative began in 2021 after the city began work on a Parking Master Plan to proactively evaluate long-term parking needs as downtown continues to attract more people and new investments. Some infrastructure, such as new poles, will continue to be installed to ensure downtown is prepared as demand continues to increase into the future.
This remains a thoughtful, phased effort informed by downtown growth trends. There is currently no enforcement timeline, and businesses and the public will receive clear communication and updates in advance of any future changes.
