New Program Aims to Improve Efficiency and Customer Service
TEMPLE, TX (March 3, 2026) – The City of Temple has implemented enhancements to its False Alarm Reduction Program through the Temple Police Department to improve efficiency and customer service.
On February 19, 2026, the Temple City Council approved an amendment to Chapter 28-43 of the city ordinance. The amendment exempts residents age 65 and older from alarm renewal fees. All permit holders, regardless of age, remain responsible for applicable false alarm fees.
As part of the update, the department has transitioned to a new False Alarm Management System, known as False Alarm Management System (FAMS). FAMS will be managed by PM AM, instead of the Temple Police Department. The system streamlines the process for residents and businesses by offering online permit applications, renewals, and payments in one centralized platform. The March 2026 water bill that will be sent out to residents will have an insert reminding community members to register their alarm systems and provide information about FAMS. All previous alarm systems have been transferred to the new system. The goal is to increase compliance, reduce administrative delays, and provide a more user-friendly experience for the community.
FAMS is accessible online, by phone, and by mail, allowing customers to manage their alarm permits and related fees efficiently. Bilingual assistance is available in Spanish. Residents are encouraged to ensure their alarm systems are properly maintained and registered to avoid unnecessary false alarm responses and potential fees. If residents or businesses decide to pay online via a credit card or debit card, a $3.00 convenience fee will be charged to the alarm user. This convenience fee is charged by PM AM, the operator of FAMS, to pay for the merchant charge. Residents will be offered other options for payment on the website that do not have a convenience fee.
