    City of Temple Fleet Services Division Partners with Temple ISD to Help Prepare Students for Automotive Careers

    Temple High School students gain career-ready skills through city apprenticeship 

    TEMPLE, TX (May X, 2026) - The City of Temple's Fleet Services Division is partnering with Temple Independent School District's (TISD) Wildcat Workforce program to offer Temple High School students hands-on automotive experience and real-world career skills through a unique apprenticeship opportunity.
    The partnership allows students enrolled in automotive Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses to work alongside City of Temple technicians, gaining practical experience maintaining the vehicles and equipment that support essential city services. Students also have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications, helping create a direct pathway from the classroom to the workforce.

    By combining education with experience, this program helps students build confidence, develop valuable skills, and explore a career path that is in high demand. We're proud to partner with Temple ISD to invest in the future workforce of our community.

    Students participating in the program gain experience in:
    • Routine preventative maintenance
    • Light-duty vehicle repairs
    • Vehicle diagnostics
    • Industry best practices and safety standards
    • Engine and brake system repairs
    • Equipment maintenance
    The apprenticeship program has been in place for five years and continues to create opportunities for local students. Since October 2024, approximately 25 students have completed the program. The city has also hired a former participant, demonstrating the program’s success in connecting students to meaningful careers. 

    This partnership with the City of Temple gives students the opportunity to learn outside of the high school environment. Essentially this is on the job training ensuring our students are prepared for the current demands of the workforce. Students aren’t just watching; they are performing routine preventative maintenance, vehicle diagnostics, and engine repairs on the very equipment that keeps the city running. We are grateful for this partnership and the city working with our students.
