TEMPLE, TX (August 20, 2026) – Summit Recreation Center's second phase of renovations will start this September. Phase One focused on the exterior of the building and did not impact the facility's day-to-day operations.
Phase Two will affect the south section of the facility, requiring a temporary closure of the building's main entrance and the relocation of amenities to the north side of the facility. The center notified members today, August 20, that the facility will temporarily close on September 8 - 9 to allow staff time to prepare the center for the second phase of renovations. Facility staff requests that members remove all personal belongings from the locker rooms by the end of the day on Monday, September 7.
Repairs are anticipated to last several months. We understand these temporary changes may cause some inconvenience, and our goal is to minimize disruptions while continuing to provide quality fitness and recreation opportunities throughout the project.

Beginning September 10, 2026, the facility will reopen with the south section of the Summit remaining temporarily closed while facility renovations and repairs are completed. While this area of the building will be closed, most Summit programs, services and amenities will remain available throughout the project, with some temporarily relocated within the facility.
At this time, members will continue to have access to:
- Select Fitness Equipment: A selection of weight room equipment will be relocated to Studio A, and cardio equipment will remain available
- Group exercise and programming: Regular programming and group exercise classes will continue
- Childcare: Childcare services will be available in a temporary location
- Restrooms and changing rooms: Restrooms and changing rooms will be available on the pool deck
- Outdoor recreation: Pickleball, tennis and outdoor courts will remain available
- Equipment checkout: Equipment checkout will continue
- Concessions: Concessions will be available on a limited basis
At this time the hot tub, saunas and the locker rooms will be unavailable.
Additionally, facility hours will be modified as renovations take place. Beginning September 10, facility hours will be:
- Sundays: Noon – 6 p.m.
- Monday through Friday: 5 a.m. – 8 p.m.
- Saturdays: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The main entrance of the center will be closed during construction; however, members will be able to use the north entrance adjacent to the cardio studio. Throughout construction, Summit's main parking will remain available to members, with signage posted around the building directing guests to the temporary entrance.
