The shelter is offering free adoptions to veterans for the month of November
TEMPLE, TX (November 2, 2026) – For the month of November, Heart to Home Animal Adoption Center is offering free pet adoptions to veterans. The adoption special, Paws for Heroes, aims to support veterans' well-being and create intake space at the shelter.
Paws for Heroes is a new program here at Heart to Home, and we are excited to support veterans through the month of November. Animal companionship is beneficial to many people, but can be especially beneficial to our veteran population.
Amy Strunk, Animal Services Manager
To qualify for the adoption special, residents must present proof of veteran status or active duty service.
While adoptions do not include spay and neuter services, residents can come to the shelter and donate toward a spay and neuter for a Paws for Heroes adoption. When adopting from Heart to Home, adoptees agree to have the pet spayed or neutered within two weeks of the adoption date or by the pet’s six-month birthday, whichever occurs last.
Residents are invited to visit Heart to Home, located at 620 Mama Dog Cir., during regular business hours to visit with adoptable animals. The shelter is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. To complete the adoption process, residents need to bring a photo ID and proof of current address.
