TEMPLE, TX (October 23, 2026) – The City of Temple Solid Waste Department is partnering with Temple Independent School District (TISD) to provide high school students with valuable hands-on experience while giving City dumpsters a fresh look.
Through the partnership, students enrolled in Temple High School's Automotive Paint and Body program are putting their classroom skills into practice by helping refurbish a roll off dumpster at the City's Solid Waste Complex.
Students visit the facility Tuesdays and Thursdays, where they work alongside City staff to learn and practice techniques used in automotive painting and refinishing. The process includes grinding, sanding, surface preparation and painting, giving students an opportunity to develop practical skills in a real-world work environment.

By working alongside our staff, students are gaining valuable hands-on experience while helping us maintain and improve City equipment. We're proud to work with Temple ISD to support the next generation of skilled workers and show students how their skills can make a difference in their own community.

The initiative is part of an ongoing partnership involving the City's Fleet Services operations, which provides students with opportunities to apply skills they are learning in the classroom to projects that benefit the community. Beyond improving the appearance of City equipment, the partnership highlights the importance of workforce development and collaboration between local government and education.
