Morning thunderstorms spark 2 fires in west Temple.
TEMPLE, TX (May 26, 2025) - Early this morning Temple Fire and Rescue responded to the reports of 2 structure fires, caused by this mornings storms. At 7:31am, Temple Fire responded to the area of 1111 Emerald Gate Dr, for the report of smoke coming from the attic of a residence. First arriving crews quickly found an area in the attic that was smoldering producing visible smoke through the eve of the home. The embers were quickly doused with water from an extinguisher, limiting damage to the structure.
The homeowner reported what he thought was a small spark inside the kitchen of the home where he had been working, at the time of the strike. Neighbors quickly came over to alert him of the smoke from the attic vent on the house. All occupants were able to evacuate without incident, and there were no injuries reported associated with this call.
At 7:54am this morning, a short time after the first fire call, crews were dispatched to 709 Meiomi Dr., for the report of another possible structure fire. Upon arrival crews found a significant amount of smoke coming from the attic of a residence, located in a row of adjoined townhomes. The affected unit had visible damage to the roof near a vent pipe. As crews entered the home and searched the attic, heavy smoke and flames were found. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, calling it extinguished at approximately 8:30am.
At this location all occupants of the affected unit and neighboring units were able to evacuate without injury. A total of 5 occupants and 1 family pet will be displaced by this incident. Property Mgt. is working with the residents to secure another place to stay.
Temple Fire and Rescue responded with 7 units to Emerald Gate Dr., with a total of 19 personnel. As units cleared that scene and began responding to Meiomi Dr. a total of 8 units and 23 personnel made it to the scene. Also present on both of these incidents were Temple Police Dept. and Temple EMS.
