A gas leak this afternoon prompted an evacuation in local neighborhood
Temple, Texas (September 22, 2025) - This afternoon at 3:34pm, Temple Fire and Rescue responded to the report of a gas leak. Neighbors mentioned they had heard a loud pop, and shortly after had noticed a light odor of natural gas in the area.
Upon arrival firefighters found that maintenance crews had struck a gas line while working in the area. As a precaution Temple Fire has evacuated 1 full city block, between 1st Street and 3rd Street, with the cross streets of Young Ave. and Zenith Ave.
Avoid the area if possible, as roads remain blocked at this time. Atmos Energy is aware of the situation, and has been dispatched to repair the leak. Temple Fire Crews remain on scene. Also on scene are Temple Police Department, and Temple EMS.
