The City of Temple would like to share an update regarding an issue that was recently identified, and has since been resolved, at Wilson Recreation Center.
On July 2, a work order was created after an employee of the facility reported signs of rodent activity. The Facility Services team was dispatched to evaluate the extent of the issue. Multiple traps were deployed, and Pestmasters was contracted to assist with monitoring and mitigation, including installing baiting stations. During the investigation, it became clear that the rodents were avoiding traps due to the presence of easily accessible food throughout the facility, including in vending machines, desk drawers, and kitchen. On October 1, all food was removed from the building to eliminate attractants.
On October 2, a significant hole was discovered in a plumbing chase between the restrooms, which was determined to be the primary access point for the rodents to enter the building. Once identified, that opening was immediately sealed, and Pestmasters reinforced baiting and trapping efforts to remove remaining rodents. Additionally, an exterior opening that allowed access beneath the structure was filled by City personnel during the week of October 6.
At this time, there is no ongoing infestation, and the facility continues to be monitored closely to ensure the issue remains fully resolved. The safety and well-being of our visitors and staff remain the City’s top priority.
The City sincerely appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as staff worked quickly and thoroughly to restore and maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for everyone.
