Afternoon Structure Fire Displaces Family of Four.
Temple, Texas (August 17, 2026) - Late this afternoon Temple Fire and Rescue responded to the report of a house fire at 917 N. 1st Street in downtown Temple. Upon arrival crews found light smoke coming from a gable vent, in the attic.
Firefighters quickly ensured all occupants were safely evacuated from the home, and investigated to find the source of the smoke. Once in the attic, a small fire was located, and quickly extinguished. The homeowner and family were inside the structure at the time of the incident, reporting they had just begun smelling smoke and called 911. All occupants will be temporarily displaced, and Red Cross is currently working with the family.
Temple Fire and Rescue responded with 9 units and 21 personnel. Also on scene were Temple Police Department and Temple EMS. The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
