Meeting to be held on February 5 at the Santa Fe Depot
TEMPLE, TX (January 29, 2025) — The City of Temple is conducting a Historic Resources Survey and invites residents to attend the first public meeting to learn more about the project and its potential impact on the Temple community.
WHAT: Historic Resources Survey Public Meeting
WHEN: Wednesday, February 5, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
WHERE: Santa Fe Depot, located at 315 W Avenue B, Temple, Texas
During this introductory meeting, residents will have the opportunity to hear from City of Temple representatives and SWCA consultants about the goals of the survey, its process, and the importance of Historic Preservation. There will also be interactive activities where attendees can engage with maps to highlight historic places that are important to them, what neighborhoods they feel have historical significance, and what places might deserve individual recognition.
Temple currently has two locally designated residential historic districts, the North Central Temple Historic District, and the African American Churches Historic District. Additionally, most of the downtown Temple area is located within a National Register Historic District known as the Temple Commercial Historic District.

The Historic Resources Survey will allow the city to inventory these existing historic districts, explore potential new historic districts and landmarks, and highlight the economic benefits of Historic Preservation such as historic tax credits and tourism opportunities.
